New water conversation plan heads to supervisors
BISBEE — A water conservation and management policy plan will go to the county Board of Supervisors on March 21 for approval. The Sierra Vista Sub-Watershed Water Conservation and Management Policy Plan, among other things, sets conservation measures and affects future rezoning requests.
The proposed plan covers the Sierra Vista subwatershed of the Upper San Pedro River Basin, and includes the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area.
The plan covers much ground. An example is under the new land use general policies, like stating that new commercial or higher density residential development should be located in areas where services exist. Some of the plan's additional water conservation measures may include, but are not limited to:
— Limiting landscaping to drought-tolerant native vegetation
— Limiting individual swimming pools or water spas in favor of community facilities
— Using effluent within subdivisions that provide sewer treatment systems
— Installation of low-flow plumbing fixtures.
