County water plan gets feedback

BISBEE — Cochise County leaders on Tuesday assessed the dynamics of river ecology vs. runaway growth during a joint work session of the Board of Supervisors and the Planning and Zoning Commission. The meeting allowed public input on the proposed Sierra Vista Sub-Watershed Conservation and Management Policy Plan.

“We know that we have significant water issues here,” said Pat Call, chairman of the Board of Supervisors. Call moderated a question-and-answer session. About 60 people attended — contractors, residents, bird watchers, Fort Huachuca representatives and Sierra Vista City Council members — and many of them spoke to the plan.

The Planning & Zoning Commission will hear more public feedback at 5 p.m. March 8. At a later meeting, the Board of Supervisors will make a final ruling.

In the new plan, county leaders propose to revise existing water conservation policies and address growth issues in the county comprehensive plan.
