BIOGRAPHY

Commander, United States Army Garrison, Fort Huachuca

COL Whit Wright was born in Alexandria, VA.  He was commissioned an Infantry officer in 1995 after graduating from Duke University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.  He has two Master of Military Art and Science degrees in Theater Operations and Strategic Studies from the School of Advanced Military Studies, and is a graduate of the Advanced Strategic Leadership Studies Program.

COL Wright commanded the 1st Squadron (Airborne), 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), from May 2011 until June 2013 in Schweinfurt, Germany.  Previous commands in the 82nd Airborne Division include the 82nd Long Range Surveillance Detachment (Echo Company), 313th Military Intelligence Battalion, and Alpha Company, 1-505 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade.  He has served five overseas combat tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Key staff and instructor positions have included:  Seminar Leader, Advanced Military Studies Program; Instructor, School of Command Preparation; Chief of Plans, 82nd Airborne Division; and Aide de Camp to the Commanding General, 82nd Airborne Division.

COL Wright's awards and decorations include Bronze Star Medals (3 OLC), the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), and the Army Achievement Medal (SOLC).  He has also earned the Master Parachutist Badge, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Expert Infantryman's Badge, and the Ranger Tab.

COL Wright's wife, Kelly, is a former Tucson resident - graduating from Salpointe Catholic High School and the University of Arizona.  Kelly and Whit have two daughters, Hadley and Kate.
