Our speaker for May is Ken Kimmel, Chief of Police for Sierra Vista. Chief Kimmel relocated from Webster, New York in 1979 to join the SVPD. He was promoted to his current position in 2006.

Besides holding a Master’s degree in security management, he is a graduate from the National Crime Prevention Institute and the FBI National Academy. Chief Kimmel has served on several community boards, including the Children’s Center and was one of the founding directors of the Cochise Area Network for Therapeutic Equestrian Resources (CANTER). 

Ken has served as an EMT instructor, is a member of the Sierra Vista Noon Rotary and is a past Commissioner for the Governor on the Arizona Departm ent of Homeland Security Regional Advisory Council.  He is the Treasurer for the Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Managers (SALEM) and a member of the Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police.

The Chief oversees a department of 90 employees and a budget of over $8.5 million. Ken will share an overview of the past year’s successes and challenges in the ever-changing environment of law enforcement in Sierra Vista.
